Tips for Focusing at Work During the Summer

Welcome back to 2424 Penn Blog! With the weather warming up and summer quickly approaching, it can be hard to want to be at work when you could be out enjoying your summer elsewhere. This week, we’re here to give you some tips on how to stay focused at work here in Washington D.C. Try out one of the following ideas this month:

Finish Important Tasks First

It can be easy to get to work and spend almost an hour getting started on anything. While it’s tempting to do this — especially if you don’t want to be there in the first place — it can make the day drag on, and it can be easier to postpone tasks that take a lot of effort. Instead, make a goal to tackle your most important to-do items first thing in the morning! Not only will it help you feel more fulfilled, but it will set a productive tone for the rest of the day as well.

Take Mental Breaks

Even when you’re busy, it’s crucial to take little breaks at work. If you try to work all day without stopping, you’ll run out of energy, and you won’t be able to focus on anything. This summer, make sure to take mental breaks throughout the day. Whether you choose to take a break at the same time every day or you decide to take them sporadically when you’re feeling frustrated, make sure to set your work aside for a few minutes each day to take deep breaths, eat a snack, and get your mind off of the stresses of the workday.

Get Enough Sleep

Since it stays light longer and the weather is warm, it’s easy to stay up way too late during the summer. While this might be fun while you’re out and about, you’ll definitely start to feel fatigued if you get less sleep on a regular basis. While we still think you should have an enjoyable time after you get home from work, make sure to prioritize sleep so that you’ll be able to get through the workday with enough energy and brainpower.

Have Something To Look Forward To

Last but not least, it helps to have activities to look forward to throughout the summer. Depending on you circumstances, this might mean taking a vacation, getting tickets to a well-anticipated summer event, or even just taking time off to relax. Whatever you decide, make sure it’s something you’re excited about so that it can be an incentive to work hard leading up to this reward of sorts.
